This initiative will fund 6-10 proposals, focusing on topics like fraud, harassment, information interference, abusive content, encryption, internet connectivity, child safety, and content moderation, specifically outside North American and Western European contexts.
Research Areas: Explore online safety challenges affecting underrepresented languages, non-mainstream devices or platforms, and diverse social and political contexts.
Grant Details:
1. Up to $15,000 in funding available.
2. Opportunities for mentorship and feedback.
3. A virtual symposium to showcase research findings.
Eligibility: Open to researchers affiliated with academic institutions, research institutions, think tanks, NGOs, journalistic organizations, or civil society organizations.
Timeline:
• Application due date: January 30, 2024.
• Awards announcement: March 1, 2024.
Proposal Guidelines: Submit a 2-page summary proposal including motivation, research questions, methodology, team qualifications, timeline, and budget.
Evaluation Criteria: Proposals will be evaluated based on relevance, potential to contribute new knowledge, feasibility, and methodology.
