This program supports innovative research that deepens the global understanding of the Internet and its multifaceted impact on society. It aims to generate actionable insights that inform public policy, industry decision-making, and technology development to create a more inclusive, trustworthy, and sustainable digital future.

The 2026 call focuses on four critical thematic areas: Inclusive Internet, which addresses systemic barriers to digital participation; Greening the Internet, focusing on environmental sustainability and climate resilience; Measuring Meaningful Connectivity, exploring frameworks for digital engagement; and A Trustworthy Internet, examining reliability and security across network layers.

The program has a strong track record of supporting diverse, globally representative cohorts, particularly those from or dedicated to the Global South. By funding intersectional and exploratory research, the Foundation empowers researchers to produce practical knowledge that translates into meaningful improvements in how the Internet is built and experienced globally.

Target Audience: Individual researchers and organizations worldwide, with a strong encouragement for underrepresented groups and applicants from the Global Majority.

Geographic Eligibility: Worldwide.

Tangible Benefits: Funding ranging from US$200,000 to US$500,000 per project.
